Band of the Day

Introducing something new on the Blog, Mobile Apps are a very popular demand nowadays, as a way of knowing, playing and even working.

In my case it's a bit of everything. :)

Band of the Day it's a FREE App for Iphone, Ipad and Android where everyday, we have a calendar, that warn us about already known bands or new bands and new sounds, as a way of knowing or remind us of those bands.

It's only a musical app but where we can see a bit of the history of the band, hear sme musics and even watch some videos.

Everyday is a diferent band but we can check though the calendar the other bands on the days after and nothing is lost.

As any other App, We have conection with social networks and we can share good music with friends or pass some info about a band.

Xutos & Pontapés

At the end of 1978, Zé Pedro, Kalú, Tim and Zé Leonel, form Xutos & Pontapés, giving the first concert at 13th of January of 1979, with Zé Leonel in voice, Tim on bass, Zé Pedro on guitar and Kalú on drums, in Alunos de Apolo stage for the comemoration of the 25 years of Rock & Roll.

In 1981 enters to the band the guitar player Francis and Zé Leonel leaves the band, making of Tim the vocal function.

In 1983, Francis gets out of the band and the band starts to receive other guest musicians, between them the sax player Gui, and at the same year enters in the band the guitar player João Cabeleira.

the Big Boom started in 1987 with the album Circo de Feras and with the biggest hits "Contentores", "Não sou o único" and "N'América".

Continued with the single "7º Single" and the tremendous hit "A minha casinha".

Album 88 was one of the highest points in the carrer of Xutos & Pontapés with the mega hits: "À Minha Maneira", "Para Ti Maria" and "Enquanto a noite cai", and others, strating one of the biggest tournees of the band that recorded the album "Xutos - Live".

Xutos is an old portuguese band and most of the portuguese recognize the music and knows the lyrics.

For those who doesn't know them and it's the first time that are reading about them, i invite you to hear the songs.

Gregory Maguire

Wicked

Suspect? Exactly! :)

How many times i read the book, know the story, seen the musical, know the songs....

But i haven't talked about the origin of Wicked here in Arts!

Gregory Maguire wrote this book in 1995, this book is in fact for adults, and tells us the story of Elphaba, the wicked witch of the West, character of the book: Wonderfull World of Oz.

Maguire thought that this character was misunderstood and decides to write Elphaba's story.

Quoting Maguire:

“People who claim that they're evil are usually no worse than the rest of us... It's people who claim that they're good, or any way better than the rest of us, that you have to be wary of.”

As i usually say: There is always 2 sides of the story, if we catalog a thing as evil....then it will become evil.

Now imagine in Oz tale:

Dorothy (the girl with a dog named Toto) steals the ruby sleepers that belonged to Elphaba's sister, kills the girl that in fact was on a wheel chair and above all says that Elphaba is bad! Now Elphaba in fact was the only one that loved her sister and the only to take care of the girl her whole life...

Now say if this doesn't change the way you feel about "the wicked witch of the west"?

Of course... Elphaba wants revenge of Dorothy... maybe is not the good option but...

Read this book, it's marvelous, the world created surrounding the characters of Oz... and preference with the sountrack playing.

Storyline:

French movie from 2011, excelent comedy-drama about a friendship of a quadriplegic and a boy from a lower class in Paris.
This is a real true story!

Excelent OST (from the Earth wind and Fire to an amazing mix of classic music and piano) and truly (and about comedies i am really really...but really hard to please) it took me several laughs out of me.

Elvis Aaron Presley (born in East Tupelo, 8th of January of 1935 — deceased in Memphis, at 16th of August of 1977) was a famous musician and actor, born in the United states of America, being worldwide called as King of Rock.

He was also known as Elvis The Pelvis, alias that they called him in the 50's decade by his extravagant and bold way of dancing.

One of his virtues was his voice, because of the level of reach he had, after specialist analisis, he reached levels in musical notes that were difficult for a popular singer.

The specialist recognize that his expression in music got better with the years; as well as his sense of rhythm, interpretation force and tone of voice that highlighted him between other popular singers, ones consider him as one of the greatest and others the best popular singer of the 20th century.

Folowed by guitarrist Scotty Moore and for bass player Bill Black, Presley was one of the founders of Rockabilly, a fusion between country music and rhythm and blues.

Pearl Jam is a North American Alternative Rock band, that started in the year 1990 in Seattle, Washington.

Pearl Jam explosion in the mainstream with his first album, Ten.

Is one of the key-bands in the grunge movement in the 90's, Pearl jam was criticized in the beginning, as a stereotype band with comercial purposes.

However, across the band history, his members were noticed for their refuse to accept to the traditional practices in the musical industry, that refuse included the production of videoclips.

Compared to the other grunge bands in the early 90's, Pearl jam's stile is not so heavy, remebering the classic rock in the 70's.

This Scotish R&B e Soul singer and songwriter, was responsabel for sucessfull lyrics to Cher Lloyd, Tinie Tempah, Cheryl Cole, Leona Lewis, Preeya Kalidas, among others.

With a songwriter career since her 16th, Emeli has a Medicine degree by the University of Glasgow with a Neurology degree...

This music is in everything i listen...the lyrics of Emeli beeing traveling with me for some time and makes any sense in any place (Dubai, Lisbon, London...etc).
