When Marjorie married George and moved to the country, she never imagined she would be trading her career and independence to spend the next 15 years pandering to his every chauvinist whim. To further add to her discontent, her daughter, on the verge of hormone infested teenagedom has begun to treat her like George does – with contempt. Marjorie has ended up with no friends, no social life and an unhealthy fear of the local village.
Realising that if something doesn’t change, she will be swallowed into an abyss of anti-depressants and wine, she decides it’s time to venture out into the big wide world again.
This is a story of one woman’s search to reclaim her identity. Her antics are: hilarious, erotic, tragic, self-affirming and massively entertaining.
About the Author:
Marjorie Primm is my first novel, although I have been writing for more years than I care to remember.
My youth was misspent writing deep and meaningful poems that no one would ever read. I then further hindered any hope of progress by believing I could be the next Jane Austen and write beautiful romantic literature. This was never going to happen and several failed manuscripts found their way into the WPB.
Having almost given up hope of ever producing a book, I turned to writing a blog. www.grumpywoman.co.uk This is how I found my voice. My style won't be everybody's cup of tea, because it's simple and straight to the point, bit like me really.
Frederic Ayers is one of the authors that I've met that surprised me.
Firstly because he writes in English and Spanish, secondly because not many authors can write a mix of "Poe" and Twilight Zone...
For those who know me, not only in books but in movies, the unexpected and the surprise element is exactly what I love to feel, hear and see.
About this author:
Frederic Ayers is an author, world traveler, and lover of fiction. He wrote his first short story at the age of fourteen after reading Edgar Allen Poe in school. He has been attracted to writing short stories ever since. He also worked as a mechanic in the Navy, but writing has always been his calling.
Originally hailing from California, he has lived in more cities than he can count, including stints in Europe and Latin America. He currently lives in sunny south Florida with his wife and two daughters. When he is not working on a new short story, he is probably researching the latest beer trends at the local pub.
These are 2 of his works I have read so far:
Something in the Mist
Charles Clark wasn't as simple as he looked. He had scars, deep scars going back to childhood. When a new gas station opens up on the route to work, Charles panics.
Will Charles be able to control his fears, or will he just blow up?

Mother Knows
Donna Black is a housewife who hates going to her mother-in-laws house. But when she gets to the house and sees the glossy porcelain face of the doll staring back at her, she tells her husband Walter that it is staring at her. Walter scoffs at her fear of clowns and reminds her that his mother is 79 years old.
Now, when Donna's mother-in-law shows her an article in the newspaper of a man who looks exactly like the doll. When the doorbell rings Donna has even more to worry about as she goes to answer it. Will Donna ever survive what is behind the door?
Featuring Michael Jackson is one of the best news on this album!
Three tracks that were never edited, with the deceased singer Freddie Mercury are the spotlight on "Queen Forever", the new album from the iconic British band, that arrives the stores this 10th of November.
among the novelties of this album we can find "There Must be More to Life Than This", song originally composed and released in 1985 on the 1st solo album of Freddie Mercury, "Mr. Bad Guy". The track is now edited in a unreleased version recorded with Michael Jackson, from the recording sessions of "The Works", album of 1984 from Queen.
Anther of the good news of this album is the track "Let Me in Your Heart Again", song composed by Brian May written originally for the record "The Works" but wasn't completed till now. It's a song where the voice of Freddie Mercury shows his power and in which were added new guitar and drums parts plus the choir of May and Roger Taylor (drummer).
The third songs is "Love Kills", was composed by Mercury and the Italian producer Giorgio Moroder. The track was initially recorded for the soundtrack of the movie "Metropolis", of Fritz Lang, movie dated from 1927. Mercury recorded a version of this track, in a more dancing style, that consisted in his first solo single, released in 1984.
This released version is a ballad in a slower tone, and has been interpreted in the most recent tour of Queen with the lead singer Adam Lambert.
Curiosity:
Did you know that Freddie Mercury's real name was "Farrokh Bulsara" and that he was born in Zanzibar (today part of Tanzania) and lived till he was 17 in Bombay (today Mumbai, India)?
I leave you with some of the old videos from Queen
Been heavily supported by Pete Tong (featured on last week Essential Selections), David Guetta, Rehab, EDX, Michael Woods (top track of the week!) and many more.
And today arrived the new album from Maroon 5, "V", to all shops and all digital stores and platforms.
the first song release is "Maps", and it's making a huge success in all radios around the world and is counting more than 25 millions of viewings on YouTube.
The next song from this new album is called "Animals".
"V" marks the return of Jesse Carmichael, the original keyboardist from the band, that after a stop of 2 years, returns and reunites with Adam, James, Mickey, Matt and PJ.
the production is in charge of several known names as Benny Blanco, Ryan Tedder (front man from OneRepublic), Max Martin, among others. In lyrics we can find Sia and Nate Ruess (vocal of FUN.) are some of the featured guests.
The band is introducing their work in several important stages such as MTV Video Music Awards on the past weekend, but they are becoming more busy and, on 11th of September, you can see them on iTunes Festival, in London.
Lux Lisbon formed at Nottingham University before moving to London where the now-5-piece craft sweeping, cinematic indie from their tag-team boy-girl vocals, interwoven harmonies, and the influence of Dog is Dead, Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Springsteen and Bloc Party.
The last 18 months has seen them record several BBC Introducing live sessions (including for for Tom Robinson at BBC 6 Music and Bethan Elfyn at BBC Wales) and pick up support from Billy Bragg, John Kennedy, Stewart Lee, Chris Hawkins at BBC6 Music as well as The Fly and Word Magazines. Live highlights have included slots at Bestival, Y Not, Hyde Park during the Olympics, Camden Crawl, Dot To Dot as well as slots supporting the mighty To Kill and King and Tom Robinson himself.
In 2013, Lux Lisbon released the 4 track ‘Get Some Scars EP’ and the download only single ‘Demons You Show’. All of these tracks are featured in ambitious and varied promo videos, featuring (amongst other things) an 8-bit zombie apocalypse, several dancing Boris Johnsons, and an almighty homage to Wes Anderson.
Get Some Scars EP
Across their 2 Uk tours in 2013, Lux Lisbon have hit the stage with a high-energy show complete with an ambitious visual projection display that their “epic widescreen indie-rock” (The Fly) sound demands.
In 2014 - Lux Lisbon release “Memento Mori” along with 2 other singles and an EP later in the year, will headline the Lexington in London and play Bestival again.

Buraka the New Album
Unfortunately I couldn't be present but nothing that the Internet won't help and with the help of Universal Portugal (J.O).

Art: Congratulations on your new album and the single Stoopid.
After i had posted some of your work online, I received some messages asking if your music had changed, if there were any news on your sound (because of the Zouk on the last album, and being a novelty for many people).
I would like to ask how did you selected or decided what kind of sound would be in this album?
Buraka Som Sistema: Everything is valid to be presented but nothing makes it more explosive to the eyes of the world than when is presented in the right time, till a certain moment with the explosion of the moombahton and the 3bal opened up a good road to explore new slow genres and with a more aggressive sonority on the mediums and lows. translating that to what we live, nothing made more sense than using zouk as one of our working tools (we already had used in the album Komba).

Art: With the video Stoopid, the explosion of colors, vivacity and joviality is clearly visible. what was the idea that you wanted to give in this video?
BSS: The idea continues to be based on the lyrics, that says that when the music is good, when it gives you good energy, when has that certain amount that you need in your life and you don't know where it came from, or who it made it, it doesn't matter who hears it...she's yours... So go with the flow... Get Stoopid, paint your black and white life with colors of all kind and shape.

Art:With so many albums, concerts and full diary, do you consider that your work is easier, more mature than the other past works, or you notice there is a more exigent of it from the pubic view that makes you rethink and try to reach more people or issues?
BSS: After all these years playing in so many stages, being in so many recording studios, with a lot of different artists, I think we reached the "pitch point", we've reached a certain maturity that is well reflected in our sounds and the way we think our music. nowadays the music from the world seems more global and more heterogeneous than ever, everything is part the parallel universe that we described in the "Off The Beaten Track" and that inspires us so much. The sound of our album is much more mature and concise and represents even more to something called Buraka and not any specific gender and on this world we don not feel that exists public to reach, there are stages to rock and super creative artists to work with, nothing more than that.

Art:Just to tell you a story that happened to me here in Birmingham, where there isn't many Portuguese, I was sitting with my earphones a listening to the song “Hangover”, when a guy goes past me and says in portuguese: "nice sound!". Music have the power to unite people and lands, to kill a bit of the missing feeling. is there any story that you would like to share like this?
BSS: In middle of New Delhi, in India we crossed a young man that recognized us from a video and said he loved our song bababa-dududu-nhenhenhe-hey.... he said that he didn't have anything of portuguese, in his messed english, but said his portuguese colleagues from the Uni only listen to us.
Kalaf
Art:Checking your international concert diary, I noticed that you're not coming to England. When are you giving a concert here and why not Birmingham, that is one of the cities that all artists come over on stage (not only London, on the other way of it, this town is the concert town).
BSS: the places we play don't depend on our good will or us wanting to, we would love to come back to the UK, either London or Birmingham, there is nothing like rock in a good old british pub or make a tent in the middle of a country festival, sweat through the walls with the energy of our music. believe that as soon as possible for us we will go straight and visit our british friends.
I have to thank to the Buraka Som Sistema for the interview and all i can say is that I will wait for you with an Icy Pint when you get here and continue to revolutionize with your sounds, energy and good mood.
